SK DAILY REPORT ON DESERT LOCUSTS THAT HAVE INVADED KITUI COUNTY

Deputy Governor of Kitui County Dr Wathe Nzau has reported that the desert locusts that invaded Kitui County on the eve of New Year are no more.

Delivering the good news in a measured charismatic tone the Deputy Governor spoke to the people, “The second swarm of Desert Locusts that had invaded Kitui County are no more.”

Dr Wathe Nzau had been shouldered with huge responsibility of protecting the livelihoods of Kitui people. It’s a challenge he accepted graciously as he moved quickly to coordinate the technical team from the National and County Government dealing with the second invasion of the destructive desert locusts. As reported by the ever reliable Flash Online media team, the locusts had caused anguish and destruction in Mutha and Kanziko wards.

Aircraft spraying at locusts

A series of well coordinated aerial spraying killed most of the swarms in Mutha. Some smaller swarms are however believed to have crossed to Tsavo East Game Reserve.

While the swarm in Kanziko Ward moved towards Tsavo West, there is fear that they might make a stopover at neighbouring Makueni County.

It’s commendable how the Kitui Team headed by Dr Wathe Nzau worked harmoniously with the national government to save the livelihoods of Kitui farmers.
